There was so much love put into this game. You could easily notice that all the participants deeply cared for the project and the ingame-world. The OST is one of the most epic slow-paced fantasy soundtracks there is. It's not too bomastic, over the the top or trying to hard. It captures the spirit of something mysterious, behind the shadows, something magical that is hidden, but still powerfull. The first one reminds me of dropping your key down a hole, climbing down and finding an orc army that is preparing to wipe out your whole village. You watch them from the shadows, trying not to make a noise. Every unit had a description-text about the unit and how it connects to the lore. There were 12 races that felt completly different and each one had a lot of love and was consistent. The sheer amount of abilties, choices, the magic tree etc. was just mindblowing. Then there were all the units and spells that were just for the enviroment, like the very neutral, athereal giant. The campaign could fill a book. The artwork, especially for the unit pictures was amazing. This was a masterpiece that should have gotten much more aclaim.

Age of Wonders still haunts me after decades. Soooo much magical fantasy. Games these days just cant reach the quality of old ones....no not because of "good old days" and because " everything was better back then" but because, those games did not show us everything, and we had to use our fantasy as well...and that added something unique and personal to all of it....Just like a book does in face of movies.

I've played all AoW games. But I still prefer AoW 1 compared to the others.

Michael van den Bos was first hired by Triumph Studios to make the Age of Wonders soundtrack. His work was well appreciated by other companies that offered him a job. While composing the "Return to Na Pali" for Unreal, he used a sample from Age of Wonders' "Highmen Theme".

31:59...the nostalgia is overwhelming. I played this so much as a kid. The music always stuck with me, it added so much to the game's atmosphere.

In 2023 i still go back and play this game from time to time. And I consistently play this OST when working on anything fantasy related. Loved everything about this game, from the art and music, to the gameplay that I spent hundreds of hours in with friends and family.

Merchants are here. It's good for them to learn the glory of Age of Wonders.

Fun fact, I got this game becaues my father bought a software he needed for some reason and it came with Age of Wonders and Dark Stone. I played the shit out of those games but only a few years later. (English wasn't my first language and I was very young ( 7 ?)) I have so memories of this game at different ages, because I never could win a single time the first few times I played. I thought spirit puppets were op (tier 1 unit, lol). My character in Dark stone was dying of hunger and I kept saying it, but I didn't know what it mean't haha.

If I hear this melody it reminds me my childhood. I had a strong flu and I didn't go to school. Just woke up every early morning and played with Age of Wonders all the day. So, Age of Wonders and Heroes III was determined my gamer life in 1999.

it's easy to see that this game was a true labor of love by professionals. Some of the mechanics in game are a bit unbalanced but overall the games visuals, sound, and gameplay has entertained me for years. Truly a remarkable game.

When I was younger I remember seeing the box for this at a game store on the shelf and, from the moment I saw it, I knew I had to have it. Growing up, however, I was never able to play this game because my family only used Apple computers. It wasn't until the past 5 years that I was actually able to play it! I remember having to just watch trailers for the game to satiate my desire to play the game. Such a great game...and soundtrack.

It's crazy that nowadays there are screens capable of fitting the entire main menu image. How much has the world changed since the release of this game. Thank you for the timeless music Michiel van den Bos and for the upload Jiseng So.

Of all the music of all the games I played in my youth, I think this takes me back the most. Taking time to move units over the map, fighting battles, sometimes just listening to the music and not progressing in-game at all. Looking through the spellbook, imagining how your forces of good will make everything green and peaceful, or how your forces of evil let the trees wither and spread the gloomy beauty of decay. It's incredible how the music fits the graphics and gameplay.
