Turin, Torino in Italian was the first capital of modern Italy from 1861 to 1865. Torino was the home of the Royal family of Italy the Savoy family. Its names derives from the Taurini tribe which had their capital in this area known as Taurasia or Taurinia destroyed by Hannibal in the 3rd century B.C.
In the same area two centuries later the Romans under Julius Ceasar and Octavian established a fortified settlement known as Julia Augusta Taurinorum.

Torino is the capital of Piedmont (Piemonte) region in North Western Italy, famous for its Automotive and Aerospace industries, with a long tradition also in chocolate making rivalling France, Switzerland and Belgium as World's best.
