How to transfer and install the map update to your vehicle using a USB drive – BMW How-To

In this video, BMW How-To explains how to install a new map update in your vehicle.
After you've downloaded the map data to the USB drive or bought the USB stick from the dealer, you are ready to install your update in the vehicle.
Insert the USB drive with the latest map data in the USB interface port of your BMW.
The Control Display automatically changes to the navigation update mode. Select "OK" to start the update.

It seems that BMW are following the Apple model and demanding subscriptions for almost everything post purchase, in the old days a BMW was a case of four wheels and a steering wheel, everything else was an optional extra at a price. These days on a €52K car the map updates should be free for the lifetime of car. The updates for my Garmin are free, although they require a subscription for speed camera alerts, sorry safety cameras.

So un-userfriendly, i downloaded the map update with NO instructions on whether it has been updated, if i must take my car in, where i must get the usb drive etc . And you wonder why I’m considering leaving Bmw

I just bought the USB stick from a BMW dealer but they tell me that it will be useless for me if I don't pay them another 81€ for an Unlock....

Try a different make and size of usb stick as that can be a problem with some usb sticks for other similar products

I have downloaded the latest map version for my car via BMW Download Manager. When I insert the USB stick into my car nothing loads on the I Drive system to state there is a Map update, Please can you help?

What about the cars that dont have map but they have screen? I have a X1 (2017) without map. Is there any way to update the software and have maps?

I have a car imported from US, I cant login in middle east BMW site to download the map because the VIN not recognized. advice me plz?

I bought the map update and followed everything as instructed: download to my computer first then unzip before copy to a 64GB USB stick. Plug into my car nothing goes at all, was told automatic detect! I manual go to software update but it says no USB detected! But I put music in the USB port it immediately load! Called BMW three times and each time it seems all problem resolved but I did what I was told, nothing goes! One asked me to go to the car and activated data transfer, done that but still nothing happens! What a crap. Wasted me half day time and nothing done! I might ask for refund!!

All updates suppose to download automatically through the networks. Why you make things so difficult? Love BMW but please learn some simple things from Tesla!!!

hey there BMW, i have a Jan 2019 build BMW X1 with the Way map (ENTRYEVO head unit). i plugged my USB into the port under the centre console, however the car did not detect the map update and i was not prompted to press OK for the map update. what do i do? thanks!

BMWs sold in Thailand do not have this ability to update map by USB.

what a crap. I downloaded the maps with bmw downloader, copied in a usb 32gb key, inserted in the car and now keep asking for usb 1... I wish I had bought a TESLA....
