NASA to launch Parker Solar Probe spacecraft

NASA will soon be launching Parker Probe, which will be the first spacecraft to "touch" the sun, hurtling through the solar atmosphere and coming within just 3.8 million miles of the surface. CBS News Space Analyst Bill Harwood joined us from just miles away from the launch pad.

$389 million for this launch, going up to $600 million for future flights. That's just for the rocket, not the rest of the mission. That buys a rocket less powerful (and less reusable) than the one SpaceX flies for $90-150 million. Thanks a lot, taxpayers. Keep those sweet billions flowing to your friends at ULA.

Falcn heavy can put 140000 lbs into low earth orbit and delta 4 can do 60000 why didn't nasa use spaceX
