Have circular saw blades really improved? In this video I test to see if the new Freud Diablo 7 1/4" 24 tooth carbide circular saw blades really outperform a 1980s steel Irwin blade when cutting wood. For this test I use a battery powered cordless Ryobi brushless 18v circular saw. The results will surprise you!!

Help me understand. If the battery runs out ...how is that a test of the blade? Plus in some case, it was ripping thru knotted wood vs not for others... how is that a true apples to apples test?

where can I find that just plain steel IRWIN blade. Does IRWIN have that blade for sale?

Yes, diablo is however, a carbide tooth blade, which is in a different catagory. Yherefore, this test is bogus. Try using an old craftsman 24 tooth carbide blade.
Also, due to being such cheap crap, all the new blades are thinner, which they tout as good; this is why they all have heat expansion slots. Old 1/8" inch kerf blades, don' t need these, because they are thicker, and don't heat up, and, they are re shatpenable, and last longer.. The craftsman blade I mentioned did the cutting, for construction of a complete house framing, including sheathing (3/4").

Dang I can pretty much frame a house with just 1 blade

I already know the Diablo is going to win but I wanted to see the old Irwin blade in action.

Diablo makes the best blades for whatever saw you're using IMO. A youtuber project farm is always doing tests and when it comes to saw blades Diablo always seems to come out on top are at least number 2.

You have the depth of the blade too deep. Not good!

15 cuts with the diabolo and you need a new one. These blades are all inferior.
