Misinformed comments down here. The 9M in real life is not smokeless, it is reduced smoke, but most of what you see here is condensation from high altitude cold air. Also, the 9M only enables tracking suspension when it is fired, if it has not left the rail yet, it will track flares the same as a 9L. The way you can tell that it is absolutely a 9M in this video and not a 9L is due to the black stripe located right behind the seeker on the missile. The 9L doesn’t have it, the 9M does, and its present here

For anyone saying oh my God it has smoke. I saw a good explanation about it being contrails and also the AIM – 9M had blocks and certain blocks had no reduced smoke

Translation: The c130' throws a flare which must be for the f16 pilot. the heat-seeking missile can be used to shoot down aircraft. The training takes place high above the North sea. to take advantage of the time, two pilots fire on the slow flares.

To clear up some stuff no version of the aim9m has a non reduced smoke burner this was a aim9L not a m and we also know this because as of now the country don’t even have any m in stock only L for training and x for combat
