This guy just shows up and drops digestible knowledge outta nowhere.
Love it.

This man is single-handedly holding back a chaos Grimlin deep within his mind.

"Think of it as electrical inertia."

WHY DID NONE OF MY PROFESSORS DESCRIBE IT LIKE THAT?!?! IT MAKES SENSE NOW!

Shouldn’t have been watching at work, hearing “THAT’S INDUCTANCE!” startled me lol

The more we go the more these shorts get unhinged

Loving these informative shorts, Chris. I know most of this stuff from EE classes 25? (yikes!) years ago, but there are so many younger people who digest information in different (quicker) ways. That said, please keep making longer format videos as well.

I'm an amateur radio operator. There are some really cool radio antennae that are a series of precise lengths of wire and inductors, one after the other. One antenna can tune in as many bands as you want. Took me a lot of headscratching to figure it out. 😊

Inductance mixed with the right amount of capacitance makes a wave trap, and has a resonant frequency. Com Ed uses inductors on line cables to limit fault current on distribution cables.

My goto acronym:

ELI the ICE man.

ELI (inductance: voltage Leads current) E - L - I

ICE (Capacitance current leads voltage) I - C - E

It takes a minute to recall E is voltage, and current is I.

🤓👍

TBH I was a little disappointed there was no inappropriate innuendo brought in when you were talking about “choking back your amps”.

In my first language, people in the know have a saying that translates to English as, "A coil is like a girl: first the tension, then the current."
It rhymes in the original.
"Tension" is "voltage" in English.

you can model inductors as a mass in a mechanical system, while capacitors are like springs. in this case, force is voltage and velocity is current. masses resist changes in their velocities like how inductors resist the change in current through them.

But there is one big issue with coils, and the is disconnecting then from a circuit. When disconnected, it becomes a power supply and can create high spikes of voltage, like hundreds of even thousands of volts, but it can be easily fixed by a diode.

Thanks, I always wondered. CIVIL capacitance current leads voltage, voltage leads current inductance.

Inductors are used in speaker crossovers to block treble frequencies from the woofer and only allow bass and midrange frequencies to pass through.

I wish I could hang out with you just to pick up some of your knowledge. You are using this platform for the best thing it could possibly be used for giving knowledge, and I appreciate it.

Inductance has been my main interest in electronics for last 5 years . Absolutly fascinating

The more I watch this channel, the more I think of it. So much knowledge being passed over in a hugely entertaining manner. Love it. Especially the ever increasing humour ❤

Another cool use is in buck converters.
They work by keeping the voltage of a capacitor stable using a switch that controls the charger of said capacitor.
To make that process stable, the charging current needs to be controlled.
This can be done with a resistor but when an inductor is used instead, the energy loss disappears. Not completely as there are still switching losses, but almost completely.

Boost converters on the other hand simply shorts the inductor across the source and use it's resistance to change of current, to shove the energy into the capacitor.
