I know i might be a nerd for this one, but it actually happens because the brighter your surroundings are, the smaller your pupils get to adjust to the brightness, but the darker it gets, the bigger your pupils gets so you can see better. So thats why its seems so dark in your house after a long day in the sun. Its not that its so dark, its just your pupils have not adjusted to the darkness.
