WD Blue SN500 review - the end of SATA? | Hardware

This is it folks, the end of SATA is upon us and the WD Blue SN500 is harbinger to the whole affair. Stuffed onto its 80 x 22mm frame is a single 500GB chip of WD’s TLC 3D NAND alongside the company’s own homebrew controller tech. And that makes for a mean combo, delivering blistering, SATA-destroying pace for only $78 (£67).

SATA may not be the predominant tech going forward but to say this is the end of it is naive

I have a question:
At 4:06 the chart says 191s for the Sn500 to Copy a 30GB File. However by my math, this should be 19.1s.
Otherweise the drive could only transfer 150mb/s

only in very specific scenarios, for most people especially for gaming Sata ssd's are still all you need.

Just last year I got a WD Blue 250GB M.2 for just under £60 and now I could get one with double the capacity for about £10 more 😲 I do have two or three empty M.2 slots available so it's something to think about 😄

Very impressive, so many stats and comparisons but delivered in a way I can absorb without getting bored.. As you can do this so well by yourself, could I borrow Dave now, he can sit next to me, smile at me and tell me everthing will be alright, would make my world a better place.

Why 2 notches on the blue & only 1 on the black?

would VRAM-less affect the performance or reliability as a boot drive

This a misleading video, M2 slots are becoming more common but as of yet do not have the storage capacity required by gamers. I have 6 internal SATA drives totalling 4Tb as well as a 512gb M.2. Drive for my os and main apps. A single cheap M.2. Card does not signal the end of SATA drives although if they can supply me with 5TB of storage for less than the SATA drives then whoohoo.

I'd rather get 500GB Sata M.2 SSD rather than get a 250GB NVME SSD :/
Chances are you won't notice the difference unless you do Benchmarks :/
