It's important to know the truth about what it takes to get into the UX design industry, and in this video, I share my thought from my unique perspective.

Thanks for sharing!!! It is feeling like no matter what your portfolio looks like, or how strong your UX or UI skills are, without a lot of related work experience or a referral, it’s impossible to get an interview for a low paying internship.
There are still people trying to get into it, so it’s important that we’re transparent about what that actually looks like!

Could we see your portfolio? Bootcamp isn't enough. A killer portfolio that proves that you can do the work will afford you the opportunity. Yes, the market is saturated and the economy is down. But that will change and there is and will be a need for QUALIFIED designers. Go hard on that portfolio.

Our journey has been the same. I swear I start thinking something, and then you release a video about it.
I’m not done trying, but I am done trying so hard for something that is beginning to feel like spotting a unicorn. 🦄
Thanks J!

Found you a week ago and I've been binging all of your videos! I appreciate you sharing your journey, And the realism of it. I'm a software engineer, not really trying to break into the UX industry. but I still really like hearing your perspective

Amazing insight brother. 💯I think one major reason also for why profiles gets rejected is because it is filled with saturated case studies e-commerce, OTT, Dashboard, travel app, etc etc. Maybe we should try something really different, like making something for potters not e-commerce, just giving an example. Recruiters are definitely done scrolling through these kinda common topics. Like sometimes I imagine out of no where a recruiter comes across a project involving something like an app for garbage pickers, that case study will definitely be attention grabbing.

As a motion designer who specialises in ap and ui motion i've been using more and more Figma. While I don't want to be a ux designer I think having some of the tool will really come in handy.

In the last two years, I've been learning and working hard in the UX design field. Because I live in a rural area, I can only handle freelance or remote job, which is quite challenging for me. However, I do have a good client, which is obviously not a return on my difficulties. You may be wondering why I am still sticking on UX, and the answer is simple: I enjoy it.

You can participate if you are really driven and dedicated to UX, but I wouldn't advise you to pursue a career in UX if you are not!

Thank you for this! I am just starting on my own journey with UX/UI/Graphic Design. I come from a healthcare background but need something more creative that tickles all the right spots in my brain. Given the saturation of the job market, though, I am taking it more into the realm of a new hobby. It will give me the time to play with it all then transition into freelancing later.

A year and a half without being hired is rough, I’m sorry to hear that. I’m learning UX now and contemplating a career change but it’s difficult when you hear discouraging stories. Are you even being interviewed? or is it so difficult that you don’t even get a call or email back?

1 month into a boot camp and I love UXUI. I wish I had know about this years ago. I love design, problem solving, and working with others. I took the Udemy course first and loved it. Frustrating at times, but figuring things out and learning from mistakes is enjoyable and actually fulfilling.

I hold one bachelor in cs with a focus in design, one bachelor in nursing and some social sciences. I cant get into the field no matter how hard I try. Now I started on a master in business from a top10 school and suddenly people want to hire me as a product manager instead.... Impossible
