I’d never heard of Claire Lehmann before this interview but now I’m seeing a fair number of videos featuring her on my stream. In a previous, more innocent age, I would have presumed this was just a function of the YT algorithm. Now however I can’t help but have the sneaking suspicion that her appearance on a number of other conservative platforms like Spiked means she has done or said something recently to anger the Commissars of Diversity. Because this is sadly how the world works now. An individual makes an incautious statement or tweets without due PC diligence and the puritanical Left go after them demanding they be silenced. The Right then, almost reflexively, invite them on to their own media as a counter to the demands of cancel culture.
One might be tempted to argue that this dynamic at least allows individuals like Ms. Lehmann to express their ideas and further the discussion. Unfortunately I fear it does the opposite. It reinforces the wall now bisecting the public square, allowing the Left to ignore the ideas she brings to the table simply by her presence on conservative media and leaving the Right to sit alone nodding at ideas they already agree with.
This dynamic, at least in terms of the marketplace of ideas, now seems
fixed and immutable and I truly fear the long term consequences to our societies.
