Grand Designs host Kevin McCloud is touring Australia with his Home Truths tour and is taking aim at our McMansions, and he reveals to us why he has beef with our big homes.

Kevin is spot on.
The majority of the newest home designs in Australia..are absolutely shocking.
They are crammed too close together.
There is little or no space set aside for ornamental, medium or tall shade trees.
There is planning dept. resistance, to alternative construction materials such as: Hempcrete, rammed earth, 3-D printed homes, subterranean homes (fireproofing), Modular, Dome homes or Quonset houses.
In the immortal song by Malvina Reynolds called “Little Boxes”, which aply describes the newer Australian suburbs…which are burped up for posterity.
To paraphrase Malvina…”They all live in boxes and they’re all made of ticky tacky and they all look just the same”.

I love you kevin...we have less space for gardens and greenery which are as essential to environment. And do what makes you happy not what you think you will be judged on.

Im with him; they are environmental disasters. Total ego trips and terribly designed. Horrible places with all the charm of a toilet block in a Shopping Mall

I visited a billionaire's mansion in Sydney. It was a lovely place ... but absolutely excessive. 2 escalators. 2 lifts. Car stacker. Pool. Private beach. And the owner was a foreigner ... he didn't even live there for 10 months of the year.

If I want to build a Taj Mahal, I will. If I want to live underground, I will, what I will not do is listen to someone in council telling me what I should or should not have, like they do in the unimaginative country where he is from. Hence the millions of Coro street houses, or a housing estate where they are all the same. And I might add, what is it about you lot that do not build garages. Seriously, best you keep your century old designs that never get rid of creeping damp at home. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
