Waterretting nettle | Vannrøyte brennesler

Показать описание
"From plant to garment" ("Fra plante til plagg") is a project about making textiles from nettle as it was done in the old days. In this video, I share a sneak peak at this year's retting which (at the moment) takes place in an artificial pond with rainwater due to melted snow.

Retting is a controlled putrefaction process where the aim is to separate the nettle fibre from the cellulose and make the cellulose so brittle that it breaks and falls apart during later preparation.

The project "From plant to garment" is under the Norwegian Institute of Handicrafts. The Institute aims to document, preserve and
promote skills in traditional crafts as knowledge, culture and trade
in line with UNESCO’s Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible
Cultural Heritage.

12, 000 nettles? Wow.! How did they turn out after the retting? Did you get a lot of fiber? That looks like a lot of fun and interesting too.
