How to repair a Nikon DSLR with Autofocus Issues - DIY
((((((( CAUTION === DO THIS REPAIR AT YOUR OWN RISK ))))))
In this video I will show you how to repair a Nikon DSLR that the autofocus has stopped working. If you have tried all the software changes in the menu with no success. Researched for days trying to figure it out with no success. Maybe my video will give you the answers you need to repair your Nikon.
The main problem seems to happen if you leave a lens on the camera body for long periods of time. Then when you go to use your Nikon you notice the autofocus is not working. You notice you cannot change AF types in the menu. All of this was happening with this D600 so that got me doing a lot of research online and a lot of trial and error trying to figure this out. Everyone said to check and make sure "Back button focus" was not turned on or that the Autofocus switch was turned off. None of that was correct. I tried everything that I found online and nothing worked.. I even reset the camera and upgraded the firmware. Still didn't work. I tried multiple lenses with no success on any of them. Then I noticed something about how the lenses were not locking into place like they should. After further close investigation I noticed the locking pin was not moving. That led me to remove the silver lens mount ring "bayonet mount" and finding the locking pin was stuck. So I made this video showing what to look for and how to do the repair on a D600. Once I finished cleaning and lubing the locking pin the autofocus coupler (AF COUPLER) would extend further like normal into the lens and thus the autofocus would work correctly. I was happy to see that it was an easy fix so I made this video to show you what I did and give you confidence you could do it to.. But whatever you do please be careful and take your time. You could possibly make things worse if you don't take your time. Good Luck.
Make sure to use a lube gel that is compatible with cameras and lenses. I just used what I had available but after some research a lot of people recommend this brand of lube.
