Captain applies reverse thrust three times on left engine to salute me.

What a cool video! Pilot was also very cool, waving hello like that! Miss those old planes. Used to fly Hughes AirWest from HOU to TUS ($69 one way) to visit my grandfather, every weekend I could afford to. They flew DC9 and MD80’s wonderful aircraft

I have to say that I like the sleek 'clean wing' look of this aircraft (and others of the same configuration: rear-mounded engines, such as the BAC Trident and Boeing 727-200).

A more likely scenario is that he was having problems stowing his thrust reverser and was simply cycling it a few times to get it to stow. To think that pilots "wave" with thrust reversers is a stretch.
