My three reasons:
1. The Incredible Cinematography and love of Nature
2. The mesmerizingly serene and meditative nature of film about a murderous outlaw and his affair with a teenage girl
3. The distinctive soundtrack, including the usage of xylophone and that dance in front of car headlights to Nat King Cole's A Blossom Fell

Watched Badlands for the first time two night's ago. Easily one of my favorite pictures, now. 👍👍💞

My own personal three are the superb cinematography by Tak Fujimoto, the unique "atmosphere" that this film has; if indeed it is correct to say that a film can have an atmosphere? And the soundtrack, especially the use of Gassenhauer from Carl Orff's Schulwerk Volume 1: Musica Poetica.

A true classic!!!

the face painting on Sissy Spacek reminded me of Moonrise Kingdom, and the overall theme of both films being a fairy-tale too makes you think about t a connection

I just watched this last night and I totally agree! I don't know if it was intentional, because when he talked about his influences for Moonrise this wasn't listed, but I definitely thought of all those similarities while watching Badlands.

Do any of you agree that Wes Anderson made a lot of tributes to Badlands in Moonrise Kingdom? Ex: The music, the woods, the two young lovers, the use of binoculars?

A starkly haunting film. If you want to see Sheen's precursor to this character watch The Incident his '67 debut film where he plays one of two maniacs who terrorize passengers on a late night subway car. It is a scary film!
