Awww, sorry Lyn :( Well it looked like it had a long happy life with you... maybe even longer than it would have in the wild. xo

Sorry to hear that, it’s amazing you were able to keep it alive for so long. Small globular cactus and succulents give me the most trouble.

Oh!! I imagine you feel about the same as when I lost my old ariocarpus retusus I had for 35 years!! What a loss!! Sorry Lyn. I've never even had an aztekium. I've heard they are very difficult. Also hard to replace!! Yes, sometimes you just can't tell what happens. Like my old late friend Bill Mullin used to say" some days you just can't get rid of a bomb" very sorry to see this!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, to across the emerald isle, look forward to better days!! Only 20 more days till spring!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!✌️💖🌵🥀🌳🏵🌿🌸🌷🌱🌴🌲🌹🌻💐🍀🌾🪴😃👍

First of all, sorry for your loss Lyn. I do wonder however if plants, like people, have an end to life. We always expect to live for ever but in truth, there is no such thing really.

What a pity Lyn! This Aztekium Cactus was such a beauty! So sorry for you Lyn! Maybe you will have another one in the near future! Thanks for sharing! Have a nice afternoon and evening my friends Lyn and Hans! Lots of love and happiness!

Oh nooo, that’s such a shame, Lyn 😢 I’ve avoided these plants for this very reason, notorious for growing well of its own roots. Edith had a grafted one and even that didn’t live long term. So sorry you lost it, Lyn. Thank you for sharing with us. Have a lovely evening from Edith & myself to you and Hans ❤️🌵☀️🌼🌺🌸🏜

That really hurts! Having something for so long and then just dies for unknown reasons. But I must say 25 years of keeping a plant alive is a great achievement. I’m so sorry that happened to you. 😞

Hi Lyn, very sorry to hear about you losing this plant that has for very obvious reasons been very special and close to your heart for such a long time! I can 100% relate and feel the loss and sadness with you! It is always in moments like these, i.e. when one of our "oldies" departs from our collections, that we are reminded of just how old and special cacti can actually become, and that over the many years (...long surpassing the age of even many of our pet animals!) they too can even become a bit like family members! As painful as the moment is, remember all the many, many happy years, flowers, etc and keep them in good memory! Thanks so much for sharing, sending you and Hans lot's of cactus & plant greetings and a wonderful Thursday!

I read something the other day that made sense to me. Since we inevitably will have to take some bad with the good, we just have to move forward with something "better". Perhaps the old cactus from your late friend can take the place of the historical importance of this plant. Or perhaps, if David is still around, you can get another seed grown plant from him. It's not the only plant you've invested twenty five years in though. I do think you need to reward yourself for a job well done and get something that is "better" to move forward with—something that will always make you remember the plant that you've lost. So, in this way, your plant will not have been lost. Looking forward to what you do.

That's sad ! But thanks for being honest about all sides of growing plants. You could have chosen to turn the camera only towards your successes. But this is "part of the game", and with showing it to your followers you help us to not give up when these things happen to our plants !

I am very new to this hobby, but I know the feeling of loosing any of my plants. I can not imagine the feeling of the magnitude of your loss. Warm thoughts from Georgia, USA. Peace.

Oh Lyn, I'm so sorry for this great loss! Having this once beautiful cactus for so long, it's definitely the loss of a special family member. To have had this rare cactus for over a quarter of a century is an awesome blessing. Thank you for sharing. Sending you and Hans peace, love and Super Rare Cactus Power for a Comforting Tuesday from your friend in Georgia!

Oh my Darling...it´s so hard to experience when beloved plants pass away...it really effects me! Well...we have to enjoy all others we have and we have to be happy for that this Aztekium last 25 yrs...

Sorry for your loss. I had a very small aztekium hintonii for 4.5 years. It was growing nicely until it got killed by a rat that climbed into my verandah. I bought another one last December which is 5 cm in diameter and probably less than 20 years old. I hope to grow it to a large size.
