Why would they make it with vibrato-y un baroque strings?

Not a mention of the glories of the instrument - the temperaments and instant pitch changes! Playing Byrd or Gibbons (for instance) in meantone is ravishing; also Couperin or JS Bach in Werkmeister gives a wonderful edge. Don't forget to 'transpose' down a couple of notches to a=392 for the French school (done in a couple of button depressions). You miss the reason why the instrument exists. I've owned one from new, and the 'strings' button has only been used to confirm that it works! And don't forget coupling the organ to harpsichord (8+4 normally) gives that most interesting of instruments - the claviorganum. And finally, why no mention of the different registers - back 8', front 8', 8+8, 8+4, and the wrongly labeled 'lute', which is actually the buff stop. Putting the instrument up to a=460 gives a wonderfully authentic (cf the Frederiksborg Compenius) high pitch for 17th-century dances. Overall, this was a wasted opportunity to show off the instrument.
