I am very confused on why you took 3.40×10^3 as negative since it's the work overcoming the friction so shouldn't it be positive?

Sir when they use the word "overcome" wouldn't we be right to assume that they are saying that 3.40 × 10^3 is the work the applied force and not of the frictional force?

Sir if we use conservation of mechanical energy when they say use energy principles instead of Went=∆Ek do we lose marks or are both formulas under the term "energy principles"?
