If you want to spend a few days at Lake Balaton, you can easily take the train from Budapest to Siofok. You can take the M2 metro from downtown Budapest to Déli pályaudvar station. There are several trains running the southern and the northern route. It takes about 2 hours to get to the popular town of Siofok.
