The Legacy Tree Project stems from the academia-industry partnership initiative Building Resilient Working Landscapes in Rwanda: Promoting Native Trees as an Alternative Sustainable Wood Supply for the Timber Industry (PITTIR Project). This initiative, funded by the National Council for Science and Technology (NCST), is implemented by researchers at
the Center of Excellence in Biodiversity and Natural Resource Management, University of Rwanda, in collaboration with the Rwanda Forestry Authority (RFA) and SEAL company. By blending scientific research with traditional knowledge, the project aims to enhance biodiversity conservation, human-nature connection, and the preservation of native tree seed sources.
