Now that is a thing of beauty and desire.

Love vintage HP instruments. My HP-11C calc is the best $70 (~$200 in today's dollars) I ever spent. One reason I still have it is because no one ever asks to borrow it once they discover it's RPN. I still use it every day. And while it's scratched to hell, the buttons still feel awesome.. Kudos to HP.

OMG what a beautiful meter! Still looks solid. 😍

They weren't "Bought out" by Agilent, they are Agilent! Agilent was part of HP in the 70s and 80s and eventually the time came to break the division off. HP Instruments just became "Agilent"

A fine example of early made in Japan quality as well as attention to detail and maintaining accuracy in test equipment. This baby was built for the long haul and though the board is in an older style the accuracy and dependability are still there. Great retro video Darren.

I’m enjoying this barrage of vintage reviews in my suggested vids! 🎉 can’t get the gangsta music out of my head!

I think the extra data hold button at the side was for people who have beefy hands and like to hold this multimeter in their off hand while measuring 😁.

Now that's a quality Japanese meter, they don't make them like this anymore.

I'm totally speechless with its internals!

I'm going to have to open my old drawer of ancient meters and take another look at what I have in there.
I know the meters have been resting sans batteries now that I have a beautiful Owon. I think they are liquid crystal display
meters from the mid 80's. Low cost but are fairly accurate. I think maybe 1 count or possibly 2 count? Anyway nothing to
write home about. Let's go take a look and be really scared at what I was using to do repairs. I will get back to you. Aloha

Back in those days, the common saying was that there are 3 multimeter brands to choose from: Fluke, Fluke, or Fluke. However, this HP is built every bit as well as a 1989 Fluke, so it probably deserved a bit more respect. It's late-80's Japanese, so you know it's good, but it's even better than I expected.

As always nice review, by the way i saw you also have an agilent meter, maybe you can make a future review of it.

Darren, can you also do a video on infra- red digital thermometers. Thanks

When an American brand is combined with Japanese build quality you know the product will be good. Even after 30 years both E2378A and E2373A look perfectly fine and not outdated at all. There is no reason not to use them. 👍

I was worried about Duracell batteries as well. Just the other year they’d leaked again in my Christmas light. Not that it corroded anything, but even the cheapest ones don’t leak that often for me.

[3:45] Data hold buttons on the side are common nowadays in clamp meters, not in ordinary multimeters.

If you value that vintage meter take those Duraleak batteries out ASAP! Nice retro vintage meter from back in the day. I’m really digging the vintage series. 👏🏻👍

Looks like a good competitor for original fluke 27

Not bought out. HP spun off all of their non-PC/IT businesses into Agilent. Agilent later spun off the electronics instrumentation business into Keysight.
