Street View Trekker

There's a whole wilderness out there that is only accessible by foot. Street View Trekker solves that problem by enabling us to photograph beautiful places such as the Grand Canyon or Muir Woods so anyone can explore them. All the equipment fits in this one backpack.

This is the best thing I've ever found on the internet. It started with a trip down memory lane, going back to my hometown via google streets, seeing my old house. Eventually I decided to virtual road trip to my first job.. Paradise visitor center at Mt Rainier. I was then shocked to see trails were highlighted.. I thought no I had no idea they did this! I can take a frikkin hike across the country in a place that holds so many memories, that I will probably never be able to see again. And it's free... that's the part that just makes me love whoever decided to do this. They made a homesick girl very happy. I've seen people hating on the concept, but be realistic. We can't always go and be somewhere we'd love to visit. This is a gift. And yes. I now have a new dream job. Sign me up.... please?

Oh, I completely agree, this would make for great trail beta. Of course, topo maps are also a good method to get an idea of what you're getting into, and they're something that everyone should know how to read and interpret.
