How Game Devs Are Forced To Use Kickstarter

Despite it's many controversies and scams, Game Devs still flock to Kickstarter as their fundraiser of choice, so are they actually just greedy or is there more to it than it seems?

Thanks for covering our project. We were really hesitant to take that leap of faith and run a Kickstarter campaign but in the end, it felt like the best avenue to take things to the next level.

In all seriousness though, it sucks when investors (or larger companies) buy control of smaller studios and then change the creative vision of their games, or even force out the original developers (like what happened with Disco Elysium)

Large investors are more interested in toxic parasitical marketing games, like what you commonly see in mobile gaming, but not just there. Easy profits because they know it's working exactly like a casino but avoiding those laws due to more reasons I'll avoid getting into *cough* lobbying *cough*

So the good games we all love and want are more often sidelined nowadays and if not investors hope to turn it into trash money makers. We all have seen how many examples on that? It'll always be like this as long as the macro framework is a profit driven one rather than quality.

Because by and large, when someone on the internet makes fun of star citizen, they haven't played it. Because anyone who's played it in the last few years has seen that it is, in fact, a functional game with plenty to do.
