"Yes, that jolt was utterly personal. It felt as if something had awakened a memory that had been asleep inside me for years. Something seemed to grab my shoulder and shake me. Which means I might have deep connection with that music at some point of my life. The music started playing, threw an automatic switch "on" and perhaps some kind of memory came fully awake. Janácek's Sinfonietta.

-Haruki Murakami, 1Q84 (Chapter 9: New scenery, new rules.)

There is so much mystery in the piece, coupled with a sense of joy. It's almost unnerving.

1q84 소설이 정말 대단하네요
유투브역시. 이렇게 소설과 음악이 하나가되고 전세계 사람들과 또 하나가 되게 하네요 뭉클합니다😊

I won't be here without Murakami's delightful music selection and sharing his love for art in its writting, such as 1Q84

This was a piece I fell in love with as a child. I was at this performance and it was fantastic.

I had a CD with Bartok and Janacek pieces, that I was a lot listening to 30 years ago.
Then suddenly I heard a music that reminded me the Symphonietta - very happy to hear it again here ;-)

In an interesting inverse to many posts here, I came to listen to a good version of a favorite piece and have now been turned on to 1q84. Thanks to all for the reference. This is a very well played version that especially brings out much of mystery and exotica of the piece. The majesty of the epic brass sections is just fine, too. Tempo seems a bit more driven than most versions I know, and I like it.

It´s interesting, because I got here by reading Murakami´s 1Q84, but as soon as the song started, it was very similar o something I had heard before, the funk rock band, Emerson, Lake & Palmer with their title "Knife-Edge". I highly recommend to search for them, altough they admit the riff was fully inspired by Janácek.
