Lantian County, which belongs to Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, is located at the northern foot of the Qinling Mountains and the southeastern part of the Guanzhong Plain, bordered by the Qinling Mountains in the southeast, Luonan County, Shangzhou District, and Zhashui County in Shangluo City; the Kuyu River in the west, adjacent to Chang'an District and Baqiao District; and the Li Mountain in the north, bordered by Lintong District, Linwei District and Huazhou District in Weinan City, with a total area of 2006 square kilometers. According to the data of the seventh census, the resident population of Lantian County was 491,975 as of 00:00 on November 1, 2020.
Lantian is the hometown of Huaxu, the mother of Fuxi and Nuwa, the direct ancestor of Yandi and Huangdi, and the origin of Lantian jade, one of the four famous jades, which is known as the "jade seed Lantian" because of its rich production of jade. It is the main road from Guanzhong to the southeastern provinces. Lantian is a famous historical and cultural city in Shaanxi Province, with ancient sites such as Shang Chen Ruins and Lantian Man Ruins unearthed, and scenic spots such as Wuzhen Temple, the ancestral temple of Pure Land Sect, Shuilu An, Wang Shun Mountain and Tang Yu Hot Spring.
