Patrick and Thais have barely been in Brazil for a few hours, but already Patrick has a three day long list of chores his dad wants him to do. Thais isn't happy. This short vacation is meant to be for seeing family and building bridges. She feels Patrick has been taken advantage of enough as it is. So why is Patrick unable to say no to his family? And more to the point, why can't he be upfront with Thais rather than springing surprises on her like this?

Why would they want to paint the apartment when the baby is staying there? Paint fumes can't possibly be great for a baby.

Patrick is too kind and Thais is smart. I agree with her. It’s very off-putting to be given a list of chores when coming for a 2 week vacation.... there are better things to do. His father should at least ask him if it’s something he wants to do, not impose

Patrick insists his dad doesn't have a lot of money, but he has enough money to own an apartment he doesn't live in. That's more money than most individuals in Brazil OR the USA have, even if it's just in equity.

Pat's dad shouldn't even be asking them to paint. They're tenants. He's their landlord. He should be doing that sort of maintenance on the place. ESPECIALLY when they're only in town for like two weeks. He came over in the middle of the night and kept that baby up to demand free work? Very telling.

Patrick doesn't have a real relationship with his father, he doesn't have the real experience of Brasil, Thais was born and raised in Brasil, and WE know to spot real quick the bullshit of family members that for others may pass as cultural differences.

Expat living in Brazil here 🙋‍♀️ Unless you have a managed apartment (which is significantly more expensive), renters are responsible for all repairs and painting in their own apartments. Hence the reason why it’s commonplace for renters to hire a professional inspector to negotiate repairs before move in. A R$500 increase is really uncommon, though!

As a Brazilian, this rent spike is absurd, it’s really a lot. Apart from that, dads usually want to make their sons do labour work to show them the other side of world, my dad was the same thing when I was younger, always saying I didn’t do hard work or my hands did not have blisters. Until, just recently he has realised that the pen is lighter than the shovel. Apart from that, living overseas for 6 years and being a man, I can assure that I would definitely help my dad, who worked since he was 9 years old if he needed financially, sometimes people really don’t understand the extent of how much our parents sacrifice for us in Brazil just so we can have better opportunities.

Honestly if it was left up to her she wouldn't want any of his family around these men on this show got to get pass how attractive they find these women and focus on how they treat them and their families.
