Is your neck strong? Do you need to train it? Is your training for it working?

Stop guessing and start testing!

The deep neck flexor muscles can be found behind the windpipe on the front of the neck, giving them their “deep” name.

Due to their positioning on the front of the spine and short length in nature their main role is to provide stability to the neck so that other muscles can provide fluid motion.

Without proper training these muscles can become weak and often the muscles that are now supposed to provide movement are left to provide stability.

Here’s a simple test to get a baseline and test your progress with any training you might be doing on the neck, and if you aren’t to help identify if you may need to supplement with some training.

Normal values for those without neck pain:
Male: 39 sec
Female: 30 sec

Norm of those with neck pain: 21 sec

How’d you do?

Have neck pain and need some guidance? Maybe noticing more headaches?
