Ancient Mars had a lot of water! This week on SciShow Space News, scientists analyzed the Curiosity rover’s data on the rocks in Gale Crater, using it to learn more about what the lakes and rivers on olden-day Mars might have looked like.

MARS:Babe, come over.
NASA:But you are millions of miles away.
MARS:I'm wet.
NASA:I'm on my way.

Did they account for Mars' lower gravity in the pebble experiment? Seems to me that would make a big difference.

Mark Watney would have been the greatest snorkel on the Planet!

I like how Mark Watney has become shorthand for first human resident of mars.

Yay for science and astronomy and stuff! I love catching up on the latest going ons before it hits Facebook or the local news right here!
I love this kind of stuff on a personal level anyway.

The fact that I used to do Mars Rover stuff in school and go to competitions and stuff and we "knew" that there wasn't water nor had there ever been water on Mars and now we have found actual proof of it just makes me super excited? And it's really taking me back to when I was sure that space science was going to be what I was going to do with the rest of my life and I honestly feel like a little kid again. I'm only 21 but I feel like I'm in elementary/middle school again and it's just all so great!

Does the pebble experiment account for Mars' reduced gravity, given that it was clearly performed on Earth? Reduced gravity would certainly reduce the amount of of scraping against a river bed, though likely it would increase inter-pebble abrasion.

It'd be super cool if we find dinosaur bones under Mars' surface some day

Yep. That's a real sharp mountain right there.

Mars needs to be terraformed in order to serve as the cornerstone, the first new planet in humanity's Galactic Empire.
