I was on the ship "Queen Elisabeth", from Esbjerg - Harwich in 1981..In November..That was the only time I have been a bit concerned about the open sea..the blocks of ice were way thicker than a meter, and the sounds from the Hull was eerie...

it's kind of a crazy coincidence this story came out rn, because just this past week I learned of the Yamanaka factors anti-aging research from these past few months, and how they p much found out that not only is what we call "aging" mostly one condition surprisingly enough, but it's something that's far more treatable than ever expected, and the Yamanaka factors have turned out to be way more convenient "factor reset" switches for cells than anyone had imagined (there was initially a fear they'd reset cells back to their embryonic stage, which would cause cancers and teratomas and all kinds of nastiness, but instead they only seem to reset them 50-70% of the way back, so about equivalent to late adolescence).

This opens the door to a future drug that may be available in just the next twenty years that could fully restore your body back to where it was at 17-18 no matter your age. There are some really promising cancer and Alzheimer's treatments coming out recently too, including a possible straight up cure for cancer as of late last year (based on a new CRISPR technique). So my future prospects for my life have almost completely changed just from these discoveries, like in my early 50s I very well might get to rejuvenate myself to functional biological immortality (not true immortality, accidents and stuff will still happen, but it will be the end of the biggest killers in the industrialized world). The me of ten years ago would probably hate everything about this idea because I was kind of a doomer, but whatever, my past self can deal with it, lol, because one of my biggest struggles as I've aged is the fear of not having enough time to do all I want to do, so I see things a lot differently now.

Yeah, there are definitely a lot of questions that should be considered when it comes to stuff like the long term problems of people dying at a way slower rate than ever before while still presumably having kids (even birth rates are overall dropping globally, it's probably not happening fast enough), but I think the solution there is to learn how to use space and resources on Earth more efficiently (20% of the global population uses 80% of all resources rn, iirc), and using space more efficiently (75% of the Earth is ocean, so I we've barely tapped into livable space, and that's not even getting into how much space there is in, well, space lol). There are a lot of major challenges ahead, but I think the possibility that people will probably be living much longer lives very soon should be enough to motivate us to start thinking long term more, and treating the problems of the future as the problems of today, because like it or not, a lot of people are going to choose much longer lives.

Also, this has to be part of basic healthcare access, we can't just let the rich people hoard anti-aging, there's no good reason for it to be gatekept from everyone else with the way resetting the factors seems to work.

Anyone who was actually from centuries in the future would be using their own modern version of their language which would be considerably different than English today. If you don't think so try reading Chaucer or even Shakespear.
