How I Became An Ato Speedrunner

Earlier this year, I decided I wanted to get back into speedrunning with a new game. I decided on Ato, a metroidvania I played a while back with extremely fun combat. The run ended up being a ton of fun, with a lot of intense fights and neat tricks. Join me on my journey to get a good speedrun of Ato Any%, its going to be a bit of a grind.

I remember starting speedrunning this game the same day Skurry did and trying to get good as fast as I can to get a better time than them hehe. I'm glad this was made into a video, because these were some of the most fun Skurry streams for me. I really need to get back to speedrunning this game because it's just so much fun.

the training montage was honestly SO cool omg??? it was so so so satisfying to watch the time slowly go down. tbh it's one of my favorite parts of skurry vids, whenever there's cool music put over a long montage kfjshgj makes me so happy every time

I remember getting this game when I saw you play the first half of it, and then thinking to myself after beating it "this game would be so fun to speedrun" and while I never ended up trying that, I'm glad to see I was not the only one who thought that.

I think seeing the progress here is really important. A lot of people don't think about how much effort and time it takes to actually improve at this kind of thing. Seeing the process for once rather than just the result was interesting.

My favorite little detail is that the sprite changes during the final boss. When he realizes he has to fight his wife, his hat tips down and stays that way for the whole fight.

I really enjoyed this! I normally just watch the Hollow Knight stuff but I love the “learn a speedrun” highly edited videos, they’re super fun. Would love to see this with more games, I’d selfishly recommend Hades because I love that game but almost anything would be cool to see!
