Best advice is if you wrote this at 17 down and despair after a break up, its got true emotion to it. Which is captured by your vocals... just need the music to complete the soul. Like the black keys. Check out Dan Auerbachs song heart broken and disrepair... his dad wrote the poem/lyrics, he turned it into a solid piece of music.
