Weevle was a champion because he was honestly a smarter duelist than the average player. You gotta understand the average player didn’t use spells, traps or combos or have access to powerful monsters that swang over 1800, early Joey and Rex Raptor are perfect examples of this. Rex is the perfect example of the strongest average player, just stuff his deck full of the strongest vanilla monsters he could get his hands on and then he had a major advantage over most with his Serpant Dragon and Red Eyes.

Weevil actually uses strategies and tactics that overwhelm the average player and although he is a known cheater I’m positive he had a clean duel vs Rex considering Rex only had 1 monster that could run over cocoons 2k defense and if Weevil got either of his months on the battlefield it was a automatic GG.

So it was a lot easier for Weevil to get his boss monsters set up in the early days when the average duelist had a dueling IQ of 2/10.

What’s crazy though is that if you compare Bandit Keith and Weevil as champions Keith completely shoots Weevil out the water. If Keith wasn’t lazy and arrogant that dude would have been a dueling god. He had strong monsters, strategy, combos and was even smart enough to bring multiple decks designed for any match up.

To be fair when he used it, it was back when there were essentially no rules and he couldneasily pull the combo off using said near non-existent rules.

Well, you have to remember back then I don’t think they allow direct attacks and I’m sure a lot of the times people were drawing cards and they weren’t able to get a monster. That’s why he won.

Its not only his monster, he had the insect barrier and all enemy monster are insekts.

It would have been nice if there was a card that would lower the turn requirements for the moth cards

He won by several different strategies and by cheating.

Very few people in the anime back then ran back row removal, so he could use things like swords of revealing light. DNA surgery and insect barrier to stop people from attacking him. Then for the moth play simply call of the haunted your moth from the graveyard to the field in defense mode and put cocoon on it for a 2k defensive wall that only tributed monsters are likely to swing over.

We had an anime character duel tournament when i was in school and you can guess who got stuck with weevil; I still remember my friend getting super upset when i man eater bugged his blue eyes twice. Good times.

I refuse to believe weevils boss monsters are bad, I've gone up 5 ranks on master duel with his deck.

Even back in elementary school my friends and I knew they were garbage. Nowadays you only see them when someone on YouTube does a challenge to try to win with them
