I have an older B&S Toro. With a 5/16 nut-driver, remove the air cleaner cover. Behind that there are 3 more 5/16 screws remove them. This allows you to remove the housing that holds the plunger. With a small screw driver remove the plunger and the new one. reassemble.

Thanks Jeff-very helpful. I saw on another video where they took a 17mm socket and placed on the bulb and ring when reinserting. Looked helpful to snap back in with minimal risk to damaging the bulb.

Thank you, Jeff. Your methods for repairing mowers are good. I cleaned out the carb. Bowl and jets and added new fuel. It runs like brand new. Thank you

If you remove the Breather filter you can get to the Prime bub whole lot easier that way you can see what you're doing

Fourth of July ~ 2024 ~ Mississippi Gulf Coast ~ 118 degrees out. I find it enlightening for these peeps who did this Job in the Winter 😂🙃✌

Excellent, I like to use a deep socket to push it in, less chance of piercing the new primer bulb.

I have this engine in my mower, after a whole winter, needs no primeing, gas at idle, and you just pull gentley, with 2 fingers, the pull start to the end. Allways starts first try. No revving, no smoke, no noise. Just a nice gentle start. Im not saying this because its american. Im europian, and i hate american stuff. But this engine is just mental. So easy to start

Excellent video. Thank you for doing. The only thing I found was that the bottom of the bulb would not seat. So rubbed the bottom of the bulb with motor oil just to make it slick so it would seat.

Many tries but a little detective work and FINALLY got it fixed. I didn't realize the bracket in the upper right behind the back of the the air cleaner housing was too far out so I bent it back. It was supposed to take the third screw. It had prevented a tight seal for the gaskets on the air cleaner housing. I bent it back with pliers and a hammer and since it is not really needed I am not using it. It took three days of puttering around and replacing parts before the light dawned on me! Primer and mower work fine now.

Just take the damn air filter cover off and do it like that so much easier

It help to use a small amount of lube just inside the lip of the primer bulb so it slip all the way on its seat . I find a deep well socket that’s just slightly smaller in diameter than the primer bulb housing works to drive it in.

Update: the carb was the beginning issue, how ever after cleaning and putting it back togeather and back on, I neglected to put the spring that connects to the little metal arm that hooks to the top of the carb which controls the butterfly, so yes a stupid little spring has been the bane of my exhistance, at any rate it is now running better than it was when it was new after the carb cleaning, thank you again sir for your assistance.

Thanks for showing that. My primer bulb was okay, but I needed to see how it came apart. Mine had a little screen behind it that I ended up removing after I cleaned and reinstalled the entire assembly with little response from the primer. I also noticed that the gasket wasn't making a real good seal, so I thoroughly cleaned it and snugged up the screws real good. The combination got it working again. Any idea what that little metal tab you bent is for?

Could you use a socket to clip that plastic piece into place? Great video!!
