I love magical girl transformations, but this is just mid!

If THIS is the transformation, then the show itself is absolutely screwed. Why? Because this supposedly is the top notch of any show with magical girls: the transformation stock footage that attracts the public. And it looks just like the 90's. This is WEAK.

There's nothing technically wrong with this. It just feels completely soulless and lacks any kind of creativity. It feels like they just asked a robot to plan it and this was the end result.

things that i find wrong personally:

- strangely fast-paced, you don't even get to enjoy the changes in transformation (if anyone would actually enjoy this at all)
- sound effects are annoying and i swear they just used the same two sfx like 8 times for this one scene
- not much variety/individuality in their tails, with the exception of the yellow-haired girl being shorter and more stout
- also the tails don't even match their clothings color scheme? i guess that's sorta nitpicky but whatever
- their hair being undone from their original styles seems unnecessary and would just get in their faces while fighting
- their bodies look so stiff, the only thing that moves is the hair (and you'd think they'd move more fluidly considering they're underwater)

this whole scene could be greatly improved if they had just focused on each of the girls individually, but they barraged us with too much information all at once
if you wanna see some good magical girl transformations, check out the ones for the 2019 DC Super Hero Girls cartoon. each of the villains and heroes have their own unique transformation, with fitting background music and sound effects
And of course, much better animation (edit: had to fix grammar & spelling)

The sad thing is it’s SO simple to fix this. Add more frames and variety in the transformations, and tone down the sound effects. Simple as that. It’s pretty clear that they only had two sound effects, and they’re by for the most basic ones you’d hear in any transformation.

Compared to sailor moon this is pretty stop-and-go. The sailor moon transformations were always moving and flowed seemlessly to each part of the transformation. This has a feeling of a carpool picking kids up and blocking traffic behind it as a result.

Fun fact: in universe, the transformation sequence of a sailor scout (and actually most SERIOUS magical girls) is both instant AND lethal because they are releasing a lot of magical energy.
Trying to attack them during the transformation is a horrible idea because the window of opportunity is microscopic and you run the risk of getting a magical attack to the face from someone who can easily level down cities, and in the case of Sailor Moon, the entire dragon ball multiverse.

Btw nothing of what I said applies to this show, it sucks.

-If the animation didn’t lack movement
-If they used other sound effects instead of reusing the same old ones
-If they made the music more catchy
-If they made a more interesting background
-If the outfits were less plain and more outstanding
-If the sequence wasn’t so messed up
-If the transitions looked better

TLDR: If the transformation wasn't bland and was actually much better

Oh wow... This is a lot more uninspiring than I thought it would be. Where is the individual character personality with each transformation? Each character is introduced, changed, then removed quicker than the viewer can take in the designs... Even with Sailor Moon where all the characters wear very similar scout uniforms, they are BRIGHTLY colored uniquely on top of just how personal each transformation and the abilities they use are to the character. In Tokyo Mew Mew, the characters are similarly colored uniquely to each other, on top of having unique outfit designs. Plus their transformations are personalized to the character/animal they represent. But these are... so quick and stiff that it doesn't even have to be a sequence... it's kinda depressing. The transformation Iis the HEART of magical girl...
