I sincerely respect your new direction in this video. What particularly appealed to me was when you discussed going to Sunshine Acres - it reminded me of a time when I worked in a program (boringly called Cognitive Remediation) to assist people with severe mental health issues regain various functions via use of video and board games. It was incredibly rewarding getting to see people think in ways they didn't think possible and solve problems they were told they'd never be able to - they were inspiring. This is definitely one of the secret abilities of board and role play games that often gets overlooked. As long as you can relate what the participant has just done back to everyday life, it is amazing to help them have their own EUREKA! moments. We used to have a range of games that focussed on specific cognitive and social functions and this is something that (due to my professional background) I just don't see brought out in reviews eg. "this game really makes your brain work on sequencing and we use this everyday in these ways..." or "this game teaches resource management and task prioritisation and this is an important skill because..." and so on.
I am pleased to see you thinking in similar ways (re breaking barriers and helping people grow) and doing something different to the other gaming media out there! I wish you well and hope this grows for you.

Boardgames are such great teaching tools, I'm a teacher and I work as volunteer in educational programs for kids, it can really break down barriers between a group of completely unkown kids, witnessing how they instantly gets calmed down, with their eyes shining and completely engaged in games, thinking and working together.
And I'm actually inspired by your game presentation style.
Now I'm always tell a story first, what's our purpose and what will we be doing, then I open the box when everyone is in the mood. =)

Great message Dan! I've been enjoying your content for a long time and I think this is the best motivation yet! I've been kicking around the idea of doing something similar for a while but I just don't think I'm capable of it. Glad you're doing it though. I think my main motivation for enjoying board games is similar to yours. I need something to do to keep my mind working but I also want to be present with people and I think I'm pretty terrible at small talk so board games kind of fills in the gaps. Don't know if that makes any sense but thanks again anyway.
