Corvette Seats Dissected: C6 vs. C7 - CAR and DRIVER

What makes the new Corvette seats so much better than the old ones? Our blades tell the tale.

When I got my '10 ZR1 the seats, interior and the stereo were the first things to go. I got a pair of Recaros used in the CTS-V. I had to disassemble them, modify the frames and seat track to fit. I removed the heaters (not needed in FL) but left the cooling fans in, they work quite well. My interior guy rebuilt the foam and leather to match the rest of the interior he installed. I now have a very comfortable interior that's a pleasure to spend time in. Total cost was $4k. Well worth it.

I have a sensitive lower back and spent several hours trying out different C6 and C7 corvette seats. There is no denying the C7 is a better, more technologically advanced seat, but the C6 seat if far more comfortable for regular driving. The C7 seat has many of the hard features of many modern high priced sports cars. This includes the sides of the seat bottoms that dig into your thighs and the side bolsters that can become uncomfortable. I am not a heavy person, but for non track use I greatly prefer the comfort of the C6 and decided to buy one with the seats weighing in as an important feature.. With that said the Base seats in the C7 1LT package are more comfortable that the more expensive more highly featured C7 seats. I think this is due to all the extra technology inside making them firmer and less compliant creating hot spots, like most high end sports cars have, and making them uncomfortable like those cars. Sure Ferrari seats look great. Ever sit in them for extended periods? Just my personal preference based on my sensitive back

I am happy that GM were listening and sorted out this problem; however, that created another problem, weight. The C7 with the Z51 package is heavier than the C6 GrandSport.

Great cutaway video. My guess is they might make the competition seats manually adjustable via a dial on the side like what Recaros have.

When I got my c6 I really thought I had some broken seats with the rocking. To later find out it was a broken design.

The C7 definitely has vastly better seats than most C6s. However, in fairness, the C6 did change the seats for the 2012 and 2013 model years that are a lot better than the earlier seats.
