In this video, I attach the centre section to the base and machine the centre section to take the worm gear and shaft, among other things that needed to be done on that section of my homemade rotary table.

I call BS! You can build a lathe and mill from scratch but you can't fix a washing machine? You just didn't want to, did you?

Hey brother no worries on how long it's taking, what you're doing is not an easy feat, especially when you're having to contend with cranky neighbors along with work fixturing and machine size limitations.. 👍👍

I think this is one way YT kinda does machinists and machining in general a disservice, it makes it everything look so effortless. Most viewers don't realize all the time, forethought, math and problem solving that goes into making your own tools from scratch and think that it just falls into place lol.

Edit* Damn they must've done multiple chrome dips on those cast iron weights for those chips to spiral like that! 😳 That would explain why it's been such bear to machine.

counter boring tools have cylindrical part that leads the tool so it cuts relatively concentric with the hole. It is always sized for the clearance hole that bolt size requires.
For example an M8 bolt has an 8, 4 - 8, 6 mm clearance hole specified.

You know, before this video, I've never seen a spiral swarf come off a piece of "cast", You're a winner!😉😊
BTW Are you keeping a running tally of costs in tooling and basic materials for the project, be interested to know?💸

It's looking good sir, know that cast iron makes rust, but worse is a fire! We experienced a shop fire in 2021 and are still cleaning tools, best thing found to to do is a wire brush and wd40 or something similar, scrub til get it off, wipe it down and use a cloth and some transmission fluid and just soak what ever has been rusty for couple days and then clean with brake cleaner and wipe down with new cloth and wd40(or similar product), seems to keep the surface rust a bay, hope our tip helps, and as far as your dro the readers need to be cleaned and completely covered, if you can mount a small piece aluminum tubing with back cut out so fits over, these problems are why we went with the glass type scales, which went thru that same fire, we had to sit for couple days and replace the wires and buy new dro screen, but way cheaper than full replacement, hopefully this can solve some your dro reader problems
