First Crusade (1096-1099)

At the council held in Klermon, France in 1095, the Pope made an effective speech calling the lords, knights and all Christians to war with Muslims. He said that everyone who will join the expedition will be under the protection of the church and their sins will be forgiven. The Crusaders gathered in Anatolia were greatly defeated by Davud, brother of the Anatolian Seljuk Sultan Kılıç Arslan I. Poor Gotye died in this battle.

Then, Kılıç Arslan I, who had to retreat in the face of the multitude of Crusaders, started wars of attrition. The strength of the Crusaders, which initially numbered 600 thousand people, decreased to 50 thousand people when they reached Jerusalem from Antakya. After Antioch, the Crusaders also captured Jerusalem. The Crusaders, who plundered the city, killed 70 thousand Muslims and Jews (1099).
The Crusaders established a Latin Kingdom in Jerusalem and a duchy and a count in cities such as Urfa and Antakya.
