Seiko Prospex “King Samurai” Watch Review | aBlogtoWatch

Ariel Adams of aBlogtoWatch reviews the Seiko Prospex “King Samurai” watch in three references: the white-dialed SRPE37, the black-dialed SRPE35, and the blue-dialed SRPE33. These watches are the latest upgrade in Seiko’s Prospex Samurai collection, each featuring a 44mm-wide stainless steel case with ceramic bezel insert. Inside is an in-house Seiko caliber 4R35 automatic movement, and over the dial is an anti-reflective sapphire crystal with a cyclops magnifier over the date display. The watch is water resistant to 200 meters. Pricing is $595 on the strap, and $625 on the bracelet.

I keep coming back to the white dial with rubber strap. If they’re was a watch of the year award 🥇 at its price range it would be at the top.

I bought the Black Dial.... Very good quality! Gonna match it with a FKM rubber strap.

Ceramic bezel? Checked.
Sapphire Crystal? Checked.
ISO certified? Checked.
Hackable? Checked.
Manual winding? Checked.
Robust movement? Checked.
Crown that is easy to operate and good grip? Checked.
Waffle dial / Hobnail / AP like? Checked.
Manageable lug to lug? Checked.
Bright lume? Checked.
Date with cyclops? Checked.
In-house movement? Checked.

Fits 100% well on my 6.5 inch (16.5cm) wrist. Looks bulky but very comfy. It has the upgrades we are asking for: Sapphire crystal and Ceramic bezels. The bezel rotation feel is very solid, no back play. The crown is very easy to grip and operate. 4R35 means i do not need to worry about servicing costs as it is a workhorse movement.

This is the only Samurai I would recommend.

I bought one of these after learning about it and seeing reviews online especially yours. I bought the white dial version as it suited my collection where I didn't have a diver-style white faced watch. It's even better in the flesh. It's weighty being stainless steel but wears comfortably with that soft rubber strap. And the stainless steel strap keeper is a nice touch. Seiko said they don't do alternative straps for it but I can't see why it can be swapped out for bracelet on the black dial version. It gets nothing but positive comments. It looks very classy and well above its price point (around £500 in the UK). The bezel is said to be hardened steel not ceramic as some reviewers claim. The lume is also great in the half light and darkness.

The suttle gold against the black is perfect

Much better than the King Turtle imo. The huge "candy bar" cyclops ruins the KT for me. This looks much better.

I've never owned a Sekio, , but I really want this White King Samurai... Are you able to buy the steel bracelets separately though? Only thing holding me back, , thanks.

The blue one is the winner, by a mile. All I want is the blue one. The white dial is cool though.

This watch is part of my rotation and its so much better looking in person. The line gives it a hint of mmm a white green on the indices

Are the Samurai bracelets and the King Samurai bracelets interchangeable ?

I think nah on king turtle. But first time i saw your thumbnail, i immediately love the blue and the white dial.

What turns me down is the movement is 4R35. I have mini turtle srpc41 and fuyugeshiki srpc97 with 4R35. I also have seiko scallop srp653 with 4R36.

In my experience, 4R36 is more reliable while 4R35 has more wide deviation in accuracy.
