I was in gifted programs. No child left behind really means gifted children left behind while the ones who dont even care about learning are catered to

I have noticed this in myself. When I was younger in elementary I would always do amazing on test and get done with my work early but instead of just letting me and one other be they would give us more and more work to the point we where doing 3X as much as other students. I finally realized that if I stopped trying as hard and stopped being as fast I would have to as much during the day. So I did just that and I very much wished that I was still as gifted as I once was. I’m currently in 8th grade and since I scored a perfect score on my math state test last year I got to take algebra 1 this year the problem with that is that 8th grade math is still required so me and my peers are doing double the work still and I just got burned out and stopped trying and now I really don’t know how to get that motivation back at all. So basically without the proper care excellent children can durn very adverage.

Yes I was a very gifted kid in all subjects, especially math and reading, but I was never given more challenging assignments, and always had to wait for everyone to catch up. Which then led me to become a burnout by middle school. I still excel in reading and reading comprehension skills. But I am terrible at math now and in what I would say is the lower percentile for comprehension.

the opposite happened to me- they gave me more work and more work and it made me stop trying because, while i was smart, i was tired of having to do more work than everyone else. i’m no longer in “gifted” programs but i still have the same grades, so i really was right to say it was pointless.
