There are two things that don't have to mean anything, one is music and the other is laughter --Immanuel Kant

The combining sounds of the sunstain notes literally touch my skin in many ways... IIt's not sad, nor creepy. It's like a fleeting morning, yet it never goes away. It stays, never leaving you, tho you know that one day it will leave you, letting you refresh yourself on the loneliness that no one can see, only you, as your morning has left you. Forever

Very beautiful. This music give us time and space to think and dream.

One of the most beautiful and pure expressionistic musical pieces ever. Art in it's purest form, all about making emotion/images out of space and sound. You will love this piece if you have a soul for it, feels so personal.

There is something so beautiful about the simplicity of this piece. It doesn't go anywhere, just like a dream. The sustained notes and gentle dynamics create a sense of floating through your mind in a deep sleep.

I am a music meditation composer and is the first time I found the name John Cage. Is a honor and deep inspiration to continue his legacy.
Music for the soul is simple, imperfect, and real

To the people who think this is just randomness.. and think that anyone can play this.. close your eyes and listen to it.. the feelings this piece produces in you is massive.. and yah.. to make a piece of music this genuine and soulful is harder than you think.
Peace.

I’m here after having the pleasure of watching John Cale play live last night at 80yrs of age. I’ve only just touched the surface with Cage however, I own most of Enos work, time to jump in.

Listen...a whole world is hidden in this minimalist creation. That’s what defines the expression of a great artist.

Wtf people dislike this? This is one of the most beautiful music he ever made, unlike some of his compositions that are literally random non musical sounds or straight up silence, this has melody, something that a lot of people should enjoy. I think this song is really soothing despite seemingly devoid of structure, but maybe thats the point

Cage was so ahead of his time and it's weird how much of this comment section is so far back.

'There is no such thing as an empty space or an empty time. There is always something to see, something to hear. In fact, try as we may to make a silence, we cannot.'

So fascinating all audio that happens after the notes have been struck and keys released.
I used to play like that in my youth, never even ever heard of John Cage.
Music at the edge of silence is what we share, John as a professional, myself as a fascinated amateur.

These are the types of musical expressions that add value to life. This piece pulls one into deep self-reflection without the act of thinking. Truth is beauty and beauty is truth. It's 4:04 in the afternoon...my life has been enhanced. Namaste...
