While Ludwig is right that you're both boomers when it comes to pausing a YT video, space bar is not a fail-safe. I've experienced it numerous times that I had clicked on something and then space bar would just toggle whatever I clicked on last. In that case, use the K key on your keyboard for pausing and unpausing.
