How To Breathe When Squatting #SHORTS

Breathing correctly when lifting isn't about pushing your stomach forward or taking a big breath "into your chest." It's about creating 360 degrees of expansion and then bracing over the top before the lift starts. Here is an excellent example by Tian Tao (video courtesy of @luxiaojunsport). #SHORTS

You know you are doing it right when you feel the exhaustion and the stress in your obliques. It means that you are keeping a high pressure between your pelvis and your lungs (i forgot the name of the muscle by your lungs) by flexing your entire core. This pressure keeps your spine stable just like the pressure of a football would keep its diameter stable.

This means you are actually WORKING your core muscles to maintain that pressure, and that needs considersble force, and that leads to exhaustion. So if you feel exhaustion in your core doing heavy squats and deadlifts, you are doing it right.

And that also means that if your core gets tired, you need to rest, because else you loose the force to stabilize your core and then you end up collapsing your spine, which then leads to disk damage and pulled muscles etc.

This is why i never lift heavy without bracing. I HAVE disk damage, but if i brace it litteraly DECOMPRESSES my spine, because that pressure is a force expanding between my pelvis and my chest.

1 year later, this video forever changed how i do my squats. Now i’m able to go deep and heavy with no belt, and leave with my back intact. Thank you!

Ever since I started using that technique I can squat heavy without belts. That technique allows you to use your core, your oblique and lower back muscles as a weight belt for heavy lifts.

I've tried it today and it surprisingly not just worked but it made my lower back pain nonexistent 😍
Thanks for all the advices ❤️❤️

Could you make a video on how to fix bad posture? Specifically rounded shoulders ? Thank you!

A personal trainer at my gym was telling someone to breath out from “out of the hole” at the bottom of a squat. I’m like 99% sure this is wrong as you want to stay tight through the sticking point

That’s a clean squat! I can’t do that - too tall and a little hip flexibility limitation doesn’t allow me to drop so perfectly vertical. But love the breathing technique. I do this partially when wearing a brace to stabilize against it when I drop. It makes me keep my spine straighter thru the lift and actually enables me to lift heavier.

U could tell he's got good functional or laborer strength looking at his core and lower back.

that's why learning to breathe with your stomach expanding rather than your chest expanding is important

Man his form is great especially how he keeps his chest up avoiding back injuries! Great job 👏🏽

When I squat it’s my upper back and obliques where I feel it most. They will always be the weakest link.

When you have those limb ratios and mobility for squatting and can stay that upright.. breathing is optional :)

So you fill the stomach w/ air, & then you flex your core before descending down into it?

Is it better to pull the stomach in after taking a deep breath or push it out into the belt? Ive heard both recommendations...
