“You need to stay ahead of the machines” — exactly! One of the underlying premises of being a successful developer is to be willing to adapt and learn, _all the time_ — or soon you'll be expendable.

Dude, this video gave me so much motivation. Since years I've been doing amateur webdesign and I was always afraid that what I was doing was actually just utter rubish, although people were really happy with the results. Now I'm watching your video and I feel like intuitively I chose the right path all the way. I know most of the stuff from the video and just started developing my first two apps with Cordova. I feel so happy right now. Thank your for this!

As a 20+ year web dev, I agree with much of what you say.

You do not need this 32 min video to explain web development,
for anyone who is new to web development all you need is to learn HTML&CSS first then move on to Javascript and jQuery.
Once you mastered these go for PHP and SQL and some Javascript framworks and that's it.
Do not think it's gonna take very long, 2 weeks for HTML&CSS, I would say a month and a half for Javascript and jQuery, and maybe one month each for PHP and SQL, and a week for each Javascript framworks.
It took me 3 and half month to learn all of these but of course I used to learn 7 - 10 hrs every single day :)
good luck everybody, cheers

I am a web design neophyte trying to become proficient at web design and development. I watched the video in its entirety and found it to be extremely helpful. Appreciate you taking the time to create the video and share this valuable information.

Sketch by Bohemian Coding is cheaper than Photoshop and Illustrator. Also, unit testing is something people can explore, too! Mocha testing framework with Chai assertions is what I use for JavaScript unit testing. Also, Enzyme is a great unit testing utility for React components.

I am about 2 years into my career as a PHP / MySQL developer and this had a lot of the advice I have been looking for. There are so many directions to go in and this gave a lot of practical ideas. Thanks

Thank you. I am starting school this fall, and will be taking PHP and Java with a minor in Linux admin. Your video validates the research I have done before jumping into school.

If I spend the next couple years learning all this and randomly get hit by a car and die, I'll be pissed!

I enjoyed your lecture while I was working on a project of mine. I feel you have hit the sweet spot. I am one of those types that started with C/C++ in the mid 90s, and did not get into hardcore web development until after I learned Perl in 2007 (I had been making web pages since before HTML 4.01). I switched to PHP the next year, and later took classes in MySQL, Python, Java, and C# while in college. I learned CSS and JavaScript on my own last! Be careful with learning JavaScript as one's first programming language. Of the C based languages, it is the quirkiest of the bunch. Bravo. Well done.

Quite funny to see you mentioning Wix just after I had to wait for their ad to run it's course before being able to watch you :D

Perhaps one the best outlines of development that I have come across on Youtube or the internet in general. Very well outlined with out the riff raff. Thank you.
