Been sober about a year and a half. I’m not a good person to compare with since I was a binge drinker, but the difference in my sleep now a days is substantial. It’s amazing how alcohol effects the nervous system and I highly recommend watching Huberman Labs podcast on alcohol consumption if you find this interesting.

It's when people realizing that alcohol isn't just affecting them in the vague future, but in the now through alot of things, not just sleep. But sleep is a big one, probably one of the biggest things you could do that would enhance your quality of life. I don't care anymore, I will always get my 8hrs of sleep no matter what is going on.

This is 💯 true whenever I drink more than 3 beers or drinks my sleep is down to 4-5 hours and if I'm drunk I will be awake in 2-3 hours. Facts. It ruins your whole sleeping schedule. I am 30 and I started drinking at 13.

Indeed my personal experience. The sleep tracking has helped me see how my heart rate rises when sleeping after drinking. No bueno.

Prohibition was already tried 100 years ago guys. It's not happening and never should. We're all mortal anyway, and giving up every pleasure in existence just so you can squeeze a few more years out of life is a waste of time

I think a key aspect is knowing how much within reach it is to become rich or achieve goals in today’s world and one of the biggest distractions is drinking..

- wasting time out clubbing
> time could be spent building a business

- expensive
> money could be spent buying a healthy diet

- hangover
> unable to function the next day losing a day of productivity

- beer fear
> making mistakes when drunk which can potentially ruin your reputation

I feel like more and more people stop drinking alcohol. I'll give it 50 years and drinking alcohol then feels like smoking nowadays: not cool anymore.

I didn’t drink any alcohol for a few weeks, went to a friends birthday and had 1 glass of bourbon. Didn’t sleep right at all that night

I’ve learned fairly recently that “ drunk sleep/sedated sleep/passed out” are not the healthy forms of rest we SHOULD be getting, but me and my best friend both swear that without it, we barely sleep at all. I cannot fall asleep it seems without it. Not trying to justify my alcohol use, because I know I have a big problem. Just saying.

I would drink so much (didnt feel like a lot to me and i could handle it quite easily with almost no one knowing i had drank anything due to high tolerance) to the point where i'd sleepwalk a lot. Id get up in the middle of the night and start doing things i had no recollection of but i would often regain consciousness standing in the middle of the kitchen doing things that didnt make sense like putting the TV remote in the freezer or something.

So the thing is, alcohol can help you lose consciousness, but it doesnt help you sleep at all.

Some reason after drinking alcohol it does not really sedate me it makes me feel stressed out and wired and unable to sleep for 2 days straight wide awake

Alcohol was always known to be unhealthy, the reason people drink is to have an excuse to act like animals .
