This explains why the positive and negative always seemed to change every time I looked it up and for ten years I have felt completely stupid because I would without fail guess wrong every time. I felt so stupid thank you. Now I know it was not me.

Thanks so much -- I took a paid course with a chapter involving this chemistry and it never explained the relationship of electrolytic and galvanic systems to anode and cathode charges! Super important. Thanks for the cute mnemonic, too!

In an electric cell, Cathode is where reduction takes place and anode where oxidation takes place. Two major cells, galvanic and electrolytic cells will determine charge. In galvanic cathode is positive and the anode is negative. In electrolytic cells cathode is negative and anode is positive.

The confusion is that chemistry and physics professors teach this opposite regarding current motion. Physics follows the plus charges, Chemistry follows the negative charges.Some chemistry professors do not explain the galvanic and electrolytic cell differences.
