I was spooked by the game as a kid and had ridiculously no idea what I was doing - it was great and seeing the old images is leading to a very obscure and unreal feeling.

Games like these are not for everyone. My brother and I loved these kinds of games and never cheated. We struggled and struggled but always solved the puzzles in the end. It is a very rewarding feeling when you finally figure it out!

One of the hardest games if not the hardest game I ever played. I was 5 when this came out, friend had it on saturn. Idk what made me fall in love with it. But a def masterpiece

Watching how convoluted and confusing this whole thing is brings back memories of why I thought this game was visually stunning when I first saw it as a kid, but never wanted to play it.

I was so terrible at point and click adventures, and yet it's a genre I really miss. I loved these beautiful atmospheric games. Myst, the 7th Guest, Dark Seed, Phantasmagoria...there were so many great ones.

I appreciate how you go through and draw our attention to the tasks we will have to complete later while keeping to the task at hand. Very helpful!

My mom used to play this game with me sometimes when I was a kid. I was nine years old when this game came out and in middle school. I remember getting both the bad and the good endings, although I don't recall exactly when I beat it. I recall the spaceship island and then tunnel vehicle sequence being difficult. I drew a map on a piece of paper to work my way through it. Truly an exceptional game.

When I was a kid my grandfather had this game on his old Macintosh and I would constantly play it not even knowing what I was doing and never got anywhere, but I thought it’s atmosphere was really cool. While I know it really isn’t the same there’s a new version of it on the Xbox where you’re actually walking around instead of point-and-click and there’s a setting where you can have the original video footage from the game instead of the new animated versions and now as I am older, I actually can wrap my mind around what to do in the game. Good stuff

I loved this game so much and remember fondly the emotions it sturred.
At the time, I couldn't afford to buy a computer or game console, so I rented a Sega Saturn and the game from Blockbuster again and again until I completed it.
No game will ever compare to MYST. Of course, I had to play through from the beginning each time using detailed notes I kept from previous sessions.

this sure brought me back. I remember it took me (and the rest of my family collectively) like 2 years to finish it. haha

I"m thrilled the Myst series is getting more and more popularity. I remember playing this in this mid-90s, and it pulled me forever into the world of adventure gaming...but I knew no one else at the time who even knew what I was talking about when I would try to explain the game. I could not make it sound appealing to them lol...oh well their loss. They can enjoy their multi-player shooters and I'll be happily traveling to all of the Ages I can find...

A lot of people here have no idea how this is supposed to be played for some reason. It's so simple it's almost too simple (again, 1993). Here we go:

In this universe, there are books which serve as travelling portals to other worlds they describe (or Ages, as the game calls them). That's why you travel touching books.

You find a letter on the ground near-spawn, from some guy called Atrus to his wife ( 6:15 ), telling her to input the number of marker switches (8) in the chamber by the docks. Doing this reveals a kinda-tutorial message ( 6:38 ). Atrus explains that one of his sons burned his library (with his books still inside), but can't figure out which, Sirrus or Achenar. It's your job to decide which one is guilty. There's the plot.
Atrus also tells you to "remember the tower rotation", alluding to the tower above his burnt library on the center of the island). Rotating the tower gives you information on how to find each Age's linking book, like a safe combination or a set of dates. From there, you explore the island (and 4 Ages) and use the tower hints to progress. "The tower showed me a set of dates. Where have I seen dates before?"

I think what gets people confused is the Myst games premise is you're supposed to figure out where the puzzles are and what you're supposed to do, as the puzzles themselves are painfully simple. Once you go "oooo it's a water pump and I have to empty the water in this room", it's over, you won.

My dad had the Myst games with a notepad that game with it. My sister and I grew up on PC games, atari, nintendo 64 and game boy colors so we thought we had a chance with Myst... We did not 😂 we lived the graphics, world and storyline though so she ended up looking up the cheats so that we could enjoy and appreciate the work put in on this game. Zork grand Inquisitor was another great one.

Myst was the first game I played on a computer - I loved it and it set me on a quest for similar games. I enjoyed the puzzles and got a great sense of achievement when I solved them. Thanks for the upload and the happy memories.

This game always creeped me out because you wander in an empty world constantly wondering if you'll run into someone or not.
