I hear it, but its faint, and not really worthy of a copyright. If you think about it, there are only a certain amount of keys, melodies, etc that you can create and at somepoint we'll be recycling old tunes like we do with Pachebells Canon.

Even if they do or don’t sound similar, I believe her when she said she’s never heard the song. Sometimes coincidences happen and you don’t realize it

This is just misinformation. It's well known that artists and most people who get sued in California usually settle because it is always cheaper for them than going to trial, whether the lawsuit has merit or not

The two songs do somewhat sound familiar but it's just because of the words. "Hey" and "you" when used between words can make a song sound like another. The chords are different as well as timing.

It’s literally just the “Hey! Hey! You! You!” Part

At this point, im amazed that any aritst in any genre is able to come up with anything original, music is derivative by nature anyways.

I hate copying but this is a reach. There’s a slight similarity but it’s clearly not copied. Having hey hey you you in a song is just a coincidence. Lana del rey did rip off radiohead for e.g. though I like both artists that’s one I understand.

They don’t sound the same it’s just the same words. There are 171, 146 words in the English language about 80% is what we use on the daily, like in songs, poems, and just speaking normally. So that’s kinda a small amount of words left to use in songs and such so obviously songs will have similar lyrics.

They don't sound the same, Avril was more pop rock and the other one sound a bit hippy 70-80's
And the only similarities are just a few lines not the whole lyrics or consecutive parts of the lyrics.

Let’s start with the most important information-
The *musicologist* said it was legit, and we all know musicologists don’t lie
Is this seriously what they’re called?!
That’s *awesome*

"you can copy my homework but make sure it's a little different"

Only a couple notes are different from eachother, and lyrics are very similar, the rules of thumb is there are consecutive words/notes in a row that contribute to copywrite

No matter what song comes out and what ever era there's always going to be a small part of it That sounds like an old song.

Melody and chord progression are different. The only similar thing is the call and answer gang vocals of "hey" and "you" which is super common.

They sound pretty similar, but not in the stolen song way, more like a "same genre same vibe" type way. The musicologist is a little crazy if that's a no similarities song.

What an injustice, I believe her that she didn’t know.

*She 100% ripped it off.* Many artists rip old songs that they think young people will never hear or have heard of. In situations like this you’ll have a bunch of young impressionable fans defending new artists; that’s their safeguard.

I watched something from msmojo(i think). That avril said that she was inspired by a different song and implied that The Rubinoos were the ones who really took something from the song she was inspired by.

If you hear it yourself rather than in this video it does sounds similar, and they lyrics.. "hey, hey, you, you I wanna be your is the same and the tunes are same only few beats and few tunes are different, I think the boyband won the case
