Sansui 771 Receiver, 40WPC, 1973

Finally got this Sansui 771 working. Here’s the semi-short version of the story:
Picked up a used 771 for $100. It was a Facebook marketplace purchase . As-is. Northwest side of Chicago.Went through it and found out that the power supply 35v rail was bad. I’ve never seen a power supply go bad before and I couldn’t find anything wrong downstream. Unit has a reasonable amount amount of hours, but it seemed good based on all other checks. All fuses original and not blown!
Been on the lookout for another 771 to get either a new transformer or to part together. Corresponded with a guy locally in Warrenville, IL who had a bunch of electronics and sure enough had a 771 in his graveyard. For $20 I purchased one as-is with broken display, broken tuner, missing knob, crusty metal and case with broken slats.
Put the power supply from the parts unit into the main one. And it’s singing great tonight after a re-bias.
I really like this line of receiver, I have an 881 which is incredible, and 771 does not disappoint. I think I like the fact that the bass and treble has so much variability stands out, I mean, you don’t need an equalizer with this thing.
I rate the sound quality and performance very similar to the Sansui G-9000 or 8080db.
